Things You Can’t Do At Home On The First Day Of Winter!

-wake up in the morning light before 7 am

Reflections On A 3,233 Km Road Trip

6 days.  4 days of driving.   3,233 km.  2 provinces.  5 states.  1 lucky guy.

After being uncharacteristically anxious and procrastinating my delay for some reason, I hit the road on Monday, just after lunch, bound for Lee’s in Fort Macleod.

I arrived to a warm welcome, great meal, a few drinks and a nice relaxing day of the same on Tuesday.

Wednesday, I drove 922 km to Idaho Falls, Idaho.   Thursday, another 1029 km to Las Vegas where I took a day of rest to do a “retirement bucket list” item and saw the “Love Cirque de Soleil” show at The Mirage.   It was weird and wonderful.  I even got a “sneak peak” viewing and informational tour in the afternoon, before the show!!  So glad I went.  I was thinking of Marilyn the whole time.  (I’m sure she would have as better seats that me!) πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚.   My 22,310 steps along The Strip that day made up for a couple days of sitting!!!  πŸ˜³πŸ˜‚

Saturday’s final 543 km trek finally brought me “home”, to San Diego, once again.

I enjoyed the drive.  Despite Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas” being on every radio station, multiple times, across all 5 states, even that did not deter me! πŸ₯΄πŸ˜‰

Sights you see around 3 pm each day along the way:

So now, I am settling in to my favorite home-away-from home for my extended winter stay and I couldn’t be happier!   So fortunate to be able to be here beyond the regular two-week stay!  Finally, a winter I am looking forward to.  πŸ˜€☀️

Ready For The Next Adventure

So, I’ve been home now since  mid-October.   I like making myself stop and take stock of all that has transpired at semi-regular intervals.   This time it’s on the eve of a new, long-planned and anticipated winter escape.

Learned Something New... I have very much enjoyed trying my hand at a couple types of art with glass.   Tried my hand at both stained glass and mosaics.   I am very anxious to try more and to give fused glass a try.

Continued On With Long-Held Hobbies
Had several Solstice gigs and new publicity pictures taken to reflect a bass cohort addition to the group.   Now I won’t feel so guilty if I’m away and an opportunity for a gig comes up!

Life Is Enriched By Family, Friends and The Arts
Spent a few days in Bredenbury with Brenda, saw Deed and Fran, spent some time with Millar, MacIntyre and Amy.  Christmas exchange in Dafoe.
I was lucky to be able to enjoy Elton John Farewell Tour with The Brokers,
movies with Kim and Susan, Hawksley Workman Concert with Alison, “Into The Woods” with some Solstice folks, “Waitress”, lunch with Kevin, “Elf” with Marilyn, drinks with Kim and Pam, lunch and coffee with Linda and a tok sen massage.

And so,  it is time to shake up my new routine, by leaving on a trip to escape the winter!   I have been looking forward to this for years....6 years to be exact...since my deferred salary year.   I have so looked forward to leaving this weather behind for sunnier climes.   And so, what better place to escape to than my home away from home, San Diego.   This time, a winter road trip!   I have the car all ready, an itinerary planned and a 6 day plan to get there.   A few stops along the way,  “11/22/63” on audiobook, a loaded iPad and a whack of cds ready to keep me company on the way.   I seem to be feeling a little nervous about the trip right now.   Winter driving will do that to you, I suppose.    But the thought of driving AWAY from the cold is enough to motivate me southwards!   Wish me luck.   Next stop, Fort Macleod!! πŸ˜
