I just spent an amazing week here in Fort Qu’Appelle. What an amazing space this is! The house was initially a home, then a rectory, then Saskatchewan Art Board headquarters, then Hansen Ross pottery studio and now a gallery, studio and artist in residence run by a lovely woman named Connie Chaplin.
I even got to be a part of the gallery and can sell my cards here. (I sold 9 cards to 2 people on Saturday alone…my first day in the gallery!!)
I haven’t spent any time in Fort Qu’Appelle before, so I spent parts of most days walking around the town and enjoying the view. Beautiful.
But best of all, today Connie arranged a class in ecoprinting, which is her “thing”. Omg. It was so fun! I learned terms like “dye bag”, “dirty pot”, “alum, iron and copper solutions”, mordant” and “Victorian Puzzle Star”. Connie graciously let me do more dyeing after the others left the class as well as tomorrow again before I leave. It was an amazing day of learning something exciting and new. I loved it!
An amazing experience. I’m really looking forward to coming back to their sale in two weeks. It seems to have quite an established following.
Leaving so grateful.
