Vernon Reflections

What an incredible 3 weeks it’s been.   I’ve met some really interesting people, done, seen and learned a lot.  I love that it has snowed and melted by noon! 👍🏼

A photo recap:

Yoga, sound baths and a kick ass physio who really helped my back after only one session…can’t wait to see what he’ll do with two more by month’s end.

Adventures In Art #38-Frame Building And Canvas Stretching

So, Heidi Thompson invited me to make frames with her!  So today I did!  We built them from scratch and then stretched canvas on them.  She even fed me lunch!  Then see set me up with some gessoed, textured canvass ready to experiment with in my own in her style!  Lucky me!

Adventures In Art #37: Vernon: Where To Begin?

Wow.  Wow, wow, wow, wow, wow.

Vernon has blown my mind this far.  What an amazing place.  This residence is fantastic.  So interesting and beautiful.  The city has so much to offer.  Restaurants, coffee shops and the arts.  My God, the arts scene here.

I’ve met so many nice, interesting people and the support for arts here is incredible.  The Art Centre is amazing.  I’ve taken glass and pottery classes so far and done drop-in sessions for both as well.  They’re so helpful and accommodating.

I've enjoyed having the residency to myself so far and have settled into my studio.  Been interviewed by the Centre, attended their First Friday last week.

Crazy good!

A Better Than “Cowan Fine” Second Choice

The last month and a half in Lake Cowichan has been quite nice…it’s no San Diego, but I really did enjoy it.  With just a handful of days with snow, I did a lot of painting, a pottery workshop on Salt Spring Island, an alcohol ink workshop in Victoria and a block printing workshop in Youbou.  Had Jan and Jaro for supper, joined combinations of Thompsons for brunch at “The Mosaic” and “The Hub”, had lunch with Kevin and Michelle as they passed through Lake Cowichan on their road trip, had a supper with all the Thompson’s at Jan and Jaro’s and lunch with Kim in Fulford.  Walked, napped, listened to my stories, drank a lot of lattes from Ed’s, met a couple very nice potters (Cathi Jefferson and Margit Nellemann), massage and MyoActivation treatments at Juvenescence, went to Nanaimo, Botanical Beach, Heather’s play in Victoria, Skutz Falls, a couple Sound Baths at Ohm Zome, Mystic Beach, Point No Point Resort and Sandcut Beach waterfall.  Had I not been so content at the house,  I would have done a few more hikes and day trips, but I seemed to be just fine with a slow, leisurely pace to my days.

And so, off to Vernon I go to see what creative endeavours await for me there.  🤞🏼

Final walk of the trip.  Til next time, Lake Cowichan.  Thanks for everything!

But first, an overnight stay in Kelowna to catch the Matt Anderson concert.  So good!
